Leoni's interest in acting was encouraged by her grandmother, a former Broadway actress. Nicknamed "Sarah Bernhardt" as a child because of her melodramatic tendencies, Leoni didn't pursue her craft immediately. Instead, she studied anthropology and psychology at Sarah Lawrence College.
Upon her return to the U.S., Leoni landed one of the coveted roles in "Angels '88", a spin-off of the popular series "Charlie's Angels", and relocated to Los Angeles. Viewers will also remember Leoni as the flamboyant beauty Alicia in the comedy series "Flying Blind".
